Recipe Nutrition Calculator

Estimate calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat in your homemade food. Enter ingredient weights to get nutrition per serving. Common foods match automatically, with an Edit option for every ingredient.

One ingredient per line. Use grams (g) or weight ounces (oz), and include raw or cooked.

Food data: USDA FoodData Central. Review the selected foods and edit any match that differs from your ingredients.

How to use the recipe nutrition calculator

  1. Enter one ingredient per line with its edible weight in grams or weight ounces. Include oil, sauces and toppings.
  2. Set the number of equal servings and select Analyze Recipe. Clear matches are selected automatically.
  3. Choose a food only when a match is unclear. Review the selected descriptions and use Edit beside an ingredient to change its food match or weight. Results update after a change. Use Print / Save PDF to keep a copy through your browser.

The calculation behind your result

Ingredient calories = weight in grams × kcal per 100 g ÷ 100.
Add every ingredient, then divide the batch total by the number of equal servings.

Use weight ounces for oz entries, not fluid ounces. One weight ounce is 28.349523125 g. For cups or spoon measures, use the Cooking Measurement Converter with the correct ingredient, or weigh the food. The ingredient editor shows weights in grams after conversion.

A calorie calculation you can check

Select Try an example to load cooked rice, cooked chicken breast and olive oil. These are illustrative amounts, not a tested recipe or a recommended meal.

  • 200 g cooked white rice, no added fat: 258 kcal.
  • 150 g roasted chicken breast, meat only: 247.5 kcal.
  • 10 g olive oil: 88.4 kcal.

593.9 kcal for the recipe ÷ 2 equal servings = about 297 kcal per serving.

This calculation assumes all the listed oil is eaten and each serving contains half of every ingredient. Other food matches can produce different estimates. You can check the source entries for cooked rice, roasted chicken breast and olive oil.

Questions about your ingredients

How are ingredients matched automatically?

Common plain foods use selected generic USDA entries. For example, cooked chicken breast defaults to roasted meat without skin, and steamed broccoli uses a generic cooked, no-added-fat entry. Any assumption appears beneath the ingredient. Other foods are matched only when the name and preparation are unambiguous; otherwise you choose a food. Automatic matching cannot verify your recipe, brand or cooking method. Use Edit whenever the description differs.

Should I enter raw or cooked weights?

Match the weight to the food entry: cooked rice with a cooked entry, dry rice with a dry entry. Choose the preparation and added-fat description that fits your ingredient. If food or fat is discarded during cooking, account for it where you can.

Can I enter cups, tablespoons or a whole apple?

This calculator accepts grams and weight ounces. Weigh the edible ingredient first, or use a food-specific weight conversion. Grams and millilitres are not interchangeable, and weight ounces are different from fluid ounces.

What if my portion is larger than one serving?

The displayed result assumes equal servings. For a reasonably even mixture, calculate a weighed portion manually: batch calories × portion weight ÷ finished food weight. Exclude the container. For separate chicken, rice and sauce, calculate the components separately. The Meal Prep Portion Calculator divides a batch into equal weights.

Why does a result differ from a package label, or show a dash?

USDA entries may describe a different product or preparation. A package label is often a closer match for a specific brand. A dash means nutrient data is missing, not a confirmed zero. Check the chosen foods and quantities before relying on a result.
